At the end of September over 400 artists showed their work down under the Brooklyn Bridge for the DUMBO Arts Festival. Of the many thoughtful, eccentric and beautiful works one in particular caught my attention, Dear Climate.
TheDear Climate project, a collection of posters and podcasts, is a morose and honest collection of work subtly urging the audience to accept our climatic fate. Using cheeky humor and ambiguous slogans the creators, Marina Zurkow, Una Chaudhuri, Oliver Kellhammer, Frits Ertl and Sarah Rothberg, sought to inspire new ways of thinking about climate change. With the posters they create 68 causal dialogues allowing people to form a personal relationship with climate change that is removed from the often scary and hopeless projections.
Here are five of my favorites.
