Plastic Pollution

This week I learned of the 5 Gyres Institute. This organization's noble mission is to reduce plastic pollution until it is no longer found in our oceans. My mind was blown after looking at the full cycle of consumption, pollution, accumulation and eventually to ingestion of plastic. And check it out, NDRC produced a fun, animated video as a call for action to combat marine plastic pollution too. I hope I am the only one who didn't realize that plastics in the ocean was an issue of such scale.

Speaking of garbage, a few weeks back I posted about consumption and packaging design. Then today I read a slate article about artist Gregg Segal's 7 Days of GarbageThis stunning photo-series of people lying in their refuse from the week reminded me of some of my other favorite creative trash projects:

NYC Garbage, literally our street trash in a transparent cube

The Waste Land documentary that followed artist Vik Muniz to Brazil to capture his trash-made portraits of landfill pickers.

And this list of "museum-worthy trash"
