Lived In Lately
I always love round-up of things that are inspiring folks and wanted to get back to doing these myself.
Doing
Beach season started early with a Mother’s Day weekend heatwave and now all I want to do each weekend is take a stroll on the beach.
But if I’m honest, I have a new anxiety visiting local beaches this year. After the Palisades fires, tons of burnt debris has washed into our oceans. The debris and run off was filled with toxins and who knows how much and for how long they’ll be circulating in our ecosystem - particularly heavy metals in our sands. As an environmental scientist, I can’t help but think about the more subtle consequences an exposures beyond the devastating loss of life and property from the immediate event.
Reading
Along those lines, I recently read Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler and cannot stop ruminating on the Climate future Butler painted. If you’re in the mood for a sci-fi story written three decades ago, yet prophetically predicts some thing very close to our current reality you should check this book out.
Wearing
The spring has had a very chilly start, and I have found myself reaching for this rust color chore jacket over and over. There’s some thing about how easy it is to throw over a heavy cotton layer like this, and the massive pockets may also have something to do with it.
Watching
I am not a huge TV a movie person, I barely have the time for it these days but recently I I’ve binge watched The Bear and I cannot stop thinking about it. This drama is so beautifully done and almost had me nostalgic for by college days waiting tables on Fifth Avenue.
Eating
Our house is always overflowing with blueberries since our toddler very nearly exists solely on them. This blueberry dutch baby is such an easy way to jazz up such a simple recipe.
Growing
Recently I have been literally growing flowers on our terrace. And while it’s just a few window boxes, the blooms have been livening up our block. The best part isn’t even the beauty of the flowers themselves but the little conversations they initiate with passersby when I’m out watering them.
