Lived In Lately
Another month of what’s been going on in my world, welcome to what’s been lived in lately…
Doing
I’ve been writing again lately and it’s feels like such a reprieve from reality. Work had been intense, and I find when my head is filled with all that information watching tv or even reading doesn’t help me unwind as it usually does. My brain just can’t take in more information. But what does unwind me is getting thoughts and ideas out of my head, and writing does just that… even if the subject of what crowding my brain from my day job is totally different from what comes out of my creatively writing.
Reading
I’ve been roving my way through Late Bloomers, that’s not to say the book isn’t good but any book will live in the shadows if you’ve just finished a 10/10 read. Parable of the Sower is still living rent free in my head, and I have the sequel (Parable of the Talents) one deck next. As for Late Bloomers, it’s a multi-POV read detail four adult, Indian-American family members all of whine have their own secrets. It witty and fast paced and the characters feel so authentic I question if I know them in real life.
Wearing
Sneakers, yes, SNEAKERS! I swore off wearing sneakers for much other than working out years ago. But this year I was yearning for some easy go to shoes other than my Birkenstocks for all my mom-ly duties (read: daycare pick-up, neighborhood walks, jaunts to the park, and grocery runs). I popped into the Addidas store on a whim and fell for these butter yellow SL 72 OGs. I loved the textural details like the yellow suede, crochet-like fabric, and the unique tongue. And I have found the yellow is suprisingly versatile, I particularly love it with blue jeans and bright white cotton skirts.
Listening
This month I started listening to the audiobook, “Stolen Focus: Why You Can’t Pay Attention and How to Think Deeply Again.” Needless to say, it has me thinking differently about where I place my attention and my relationship with the internet and my devices. I have been inspired to be more intentional about how my habits and have started using pomodoro timers again to do more deep, distraction free work. This book, while heavy on the data and science, is engaging witty, to the point, and the author narrates the audio version which i am thoroughly enjoying (her has a great accent too!).
Eating
Keeping a healthy diet is always a struggle for me. Especially in busy chapters of life when convenience food is just so… convenient. One thing that has been inspiring me is ordering local fresh veggies with the subscription Farm Fresh To You. I do a biweekly subscription so it does feel like to big of a commitment and each box inspires me to make something new and fresh. If you want to try it out I have a referral code (GINA7421) where you get $15 off your first box.
Growing
This month a strawberry bloomed on my son’s tiny strawberry plant and just this week three more flowers blossomed. I have poured my heart into keeping this plant alive and it has given me so much joy watching it evolve over the last several weeks. Here’s hoping we get to taste a ripe red strawberry very soon.
